Transform your Lemur (or iPad with the Lemur app) into a real-time virtual control surface for Kyma and other MotorMix supporting applications

Attention purchasers of Liine's Lemur app for iPad

vM2 works with Liine's Lemur app on your iPad! Enjoy the benefits of both hardware and software versions of Lemur, with our ready-to-go templates for controlling Kyma and some MotorMix supporting applications.

Note: you still need to install vM2 on your Mac and meet the requirements listed below.

Template #1 MotorMix Emulator

Motormix device

Notice the synergistic "look and feel" of vM2's standard Lemur template screen to the CM Labs MotorMix hardware device.

By using the Lemur touch screen controller as its "host", vM2 creates an amazingly similar control experience to the MotorMix hardware device.

Template #2 Optimized for Kyma

The second template is optimized for use with Kyma. Only those controls used by Kyma are included and labeled consistent with Kyma usage. Additional controls expose “hidden” Kyma features such as the system volume control.

OSC Makes it Happen

vM2 supports "Midi over OSC" technology, allowing vM2 to communicate with Kyma on Paca(rana) setups without the use of physical interfaces. It also supports the use of multiple Pacarana(s) over the same network.

Requirements

  • Mac OSX 10.5 or higher. (G5 Macs supported on Leopard only.)
  • Jazzmutant Lemur running firmware version 2.0 or higher OR iPad and Liine's Lemur application for iPad

How vM2 Works

  • Runs quietly in the background, consuming minimal computer resources when idle
  • Does not require nor offer any kind of graphical user interface
  • Easily installed by double-clicking the vM2 icon. Visit its preference pane in Systems Preferences at least once, perform some initial setup procedures and it's ready to go!
  • Configuration and overall control is accomplished from the OSX System Preferences application, just like you control your mouse, keyboard, and other OSX components
  • Communicates over a network connection with the Lemur using the robust "native" Open Sound Control (OSC) facility built into every Lemur
  • Communicates directly with Kyma Paca(rana) using "MIDI over OSC" without the need for physical interfaces or cables. Supports attachment to actual MIDI ports, as required with Kyma Capybara, or one of the "virtual MIDI ports" provided by OSX's IAC MIDI driver for other applications such as Apple's Logic Pro.
  • vM2 is a type of translator: one side "talks" to the Lemur in its native tongue using OSC commands over the network, while the other side communicates with the application over either a physical or virtual MIDI port using "MotorMix-speak". All of this happens behind the scenes without your direct involvement.
